Frequently Asked Questions

What to know before we meet.

Here are straightforward answers about fit, telehealth, insurance and the way I work.

Practical Details

Who do you work with?

I provide individual therapy for adults who are physically located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during sessions. My work includes life transitions, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, substance use and addiction, stress and burnout, OCD and ADHD.

Are you accepting new clients?

Yes. I am accepting new clients and offer a free consultation before you begin. The consultation gives us a chance to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you want to change and whether my experience and direct, practical style fit what you need.

What happens in individual therapy?

We begin with your priorities. I listen closely, ask thoughtful questions and help identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Depending on your goals, I may draw from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT skills and solution-focused work. We connect the conversation to decisions and situations in your daily life.

Do I need a clear goal before I begin?

No. You may arrive with one specific concern or with several parts of life tangled together. We can clarify what is happening, decide what needs attention first and choose a manageable place to begin. You do not need to have the whole problem solved before asking for support.

How does telehealth work?

We meet through a secure video platform. You join from a private location in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts with a reliable internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. You must be physically located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during the session.

What should I have ready for a video session?

Choose a private space where you can talk freely for the whole session. You will also need a reliable internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. Headphones can help with privacy when other people may be nearby.

Do you take insurance?

In network with most major insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, UnitedHealthcare and Cigna, and a participating provider in the MultiPlan network. Coverage and client responsibility vary by plan. Please confirm your behavioral health benefits directly with your insurer because coverage is not promised.

What if I use out-of-network benefits or pay privately?

Superbills are provided for possible out-of-network reimbursement, but your plan determines reimbursement and it is not guaranteed. If you plan to pay privately, I will go over fees with you before your first session. A free consultation is offered.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice are subject to a $100 fee.

Are you opposed to medication?

No. Medication can be useful for some people. I teach practical, evidence-based strategies whether medication is part of your care or not. We can build useful ways to support mood and manage difficult situations whether you use medication, prefer other interventions first or combine approaches.

What is the first step?

Visit Work With Me to confirm that you will be located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during sessions. From there, you can request an appointment through the secure client portal. This site is not monitored for emergencies.

Are you licensed in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts?

Yes. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Connecticut (LCSW #005556), New York (LCSW #069648) and Massachusetts (LICSW #123621). I can work with adults who are physically located in any of the three states during each session.

What if I move or travel between Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts?

If you move or travel between Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts, we can continue therapy as long as you are physically located in one of those three states during every session.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

No. My practice is telehealth only. Every session takes place by secure video, so there is no office visit and no commute.

Do you work with couples or families?

No. I provide individual therapy for adults only. If a relationship is part of what brings you in, we can work on your side of it in individual sessions.

Do you work with teenagers or children?

No. I work with adults, from young adults through age 65 and beyond.

What if my concern is outside what you treat?

I will tell you plainly. If what you are facing needs a different specialty or a higher level of care, I will help point you toward the right kind of support.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I do not prescribe medication. Many people see a physician or psychiatric prescriber alongside therapy, and I am glad to work in a way that fits with that care.

What is your background?

I have more than 30 years in behavioral health. Before opening my private practice in 2014, I led mental health, psychiatric, addiction and clinical services in hospital and state systems. I hold an MPH from Columbia University and an MSW from Florida State University.

How often will we meet?

We decide that together based on your goals, your schedule and what is useful. Many people start with regular sessions and adjust the rhythm as things improve.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes, within the limits the law sets. I explain those limits at the start of therapy so you know exactly how your information is protected.

How do I request an appointment?

Go to Work With Me and use the link to my secure client portal. There you can request an appointment time, and we can begin with a free consultation.

What should I do in a crisis?

This site is not monitored and is not for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call 911 in an emergency.
