What To Expect
Work that begins with your priorities
You may arrive with one clear concern or with several parts of life tangled together. We will identify what needs attention first and build from there.
Sometimes the concern is easy to name. You may be facing a change, feeling anxious or depressed, questioning a relationship or reconsidering your use of alcohol, opioids or other substances. At other times, you may simply know that the way you have been managing no longer works. We can begin with what is most present and make the larger picture clearer over time.
I do not use a one-size-fits-all script. I draw from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT skills and solution-focused work based on your goals.
How We Work
Direct, collaborative and respectful
I will listen closely and I will also be active in the room. Expect thoughtful questions, practical ideas and a clear connection between what we discuss and what happens outside therapy.
A session may include slowing down a recent situation, noticing what you thought and felt, and looking at what you did next. We may examine whether an assumption is accurate, practice a skill for managing emotion or identify one decision that deserves your attention. The method should serve the problem rather than become the focus of the hour.
My background in behavioral health leadership helps me hold both immediate concerns and the wider systems around them. Your health, work, relationships and responsibilities can affect one another. We can acknowledge that complexity while choosing a manageable place to begin.
More about this
The pace is yours. Effective therapy can be challenging without being shaming or pressuring.
How We Work
Turn insight into daily practice
Understanding a pattern matters, but therapy is most useful when that understanding changes what you can do. We will connect our conversations to the moments that are difficult outside the session. That might mean preparing for a conversation, testing a prediction, setting a boundary or practicing a different response when emotion rises.
We will also pay attention to what is already helping. Solution-focused questions can identify useful exceptions and strengths. CBT can help you catch, check and change thoughts that narrow your options. Motivational Interviewing can make room for mixed feelings when you are not fully ready to act. DBT skills can support you when distress makes clear thinking harder.
The first step is a free consultation. You can describe what brings you to therapy, ask practical questions and decide whether my direct, collaborative approach feels right for you. Sessions are available by secure video to adults located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts.
Common Questions
Questions You May Be Asking
What happens in an individual therapy session?
We focus on the situations, patterns and decisions that matter most to you. I listen closely, ask direct questions and offer practical tools from CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT skills and solution-focused work when they fit your goals.
Do I need to know exactly what I want to change?
No. You can begin with a clear goal or with the sense that something is not working. Part of our work can be naming the problem, deciding what deserves attention first and identifying a realistic next step.
Where are sessions available?
I provide individual therapy by secure telehealth to adults who are physically located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during sessions.
