Depression Therapy

When effort feels heavier than it should.

Depression can flatten motivation, narrow perspective and make ordinary decisions feel difficult. You do not have to wait for it to become unbearable.

What To Expect

Start with what is happening now

We will look at changes in mood, sleep, energy, connection and daily functioning. We will also pay attention to loss, health, work and relationship stress that may be part of the picture.

Depression can make ordinary tasks feel unusually heavy. It can narrow your view until a difficult day seems like evidence that every day will be the same. You may pull away from people, lose interest in things that once mattered or criticize yourself for not being able to push through. Those patterns deserve attention before they become unbearable.

Clear observation can make a problem feel more workable.

Low mood
Loss of interest
Isolation
Self-criticism

How We Work

Create movement without pressure

CBT helps connect thoughts, behavior and mood. We can identify small actions that restore structure and test the conclusions depression presents as facts.

A session may begin with a recent moment when your mood, motivation or self-criticism changed what you did. We can slow that moment down, notice the thought attached to it and ask whether the thought is complete and accurate. From there, we can choose a practical response that is realistic for your current energy rather than setting a standard that creates more defeat.

I am not opposed to psychiatric medication. We can also build practical strategies that support mood, whether you use medication, prefer other interventions first or combine approaches.

More about this

Therapy is not a promise of constant happiness. It can help you regain options, connection and a more accurate view of yourself.

How We Work

Make the first step manageable

Beginning does not require a perfectly stated goal or the energy to change everything at once. You can start by describing what has become harder, what you miss and where the strain shows up most clearly in daily life.

My style is warm, direct and active. We can identify patterns without turning every difficulty into a personal failure. Solution-focused questions help us notice what supports movement, even when that movement is small. DBT skills can help when emotion feels intense, and CBT can help test the never and always conclusions that depression often presents as facts.

A free consultation lets us discuss what you are experiencing and whether individual therapy with me feels like a useful next step. I meet with adults by secure telehealth while they are located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts.

Common Questions

Questions You May Be Asking

Do I need to wait until depression feels severe?

No. You do not have to wait until daily life feels unbearable. Therapy can begin when changes in mood, energy, interest, connection or motivation are making life harder.

What might we work on in sessions?

We may examine the connection among thoughts, behavior and mood, identify patterns that keep you stuck and choose small, practical actions that fit your current circumstances.

Can therapy be useful if medication is part of my care?

Yes. I am not opposed to psychiatric medication. We can build practical strategies whether medication is part of your care, you prefer other interventions first or you combine approaches.
