Substance Use and Addiction Therapy

A clear conversation about change.

If alcohol, opioids or other substances are costing more than you want to admit, we can begin without shame or a lecture.

What To Expect

Ambivalence is part of the work

You may know something needs to change and still have strong reasons for continuing. Motivational Interviewing does not treat that conflict as resistance. It helps you hear your own reasons for change.

You may be considering cutting back, getting sober or maintaining a change you have already begun. One part of you may see the costs clearly while another remembers what the substance does for you in the moment. A useful conversation can hold both sides without shame, pressure or a lecture.

We can talk honestly about risk, consequences and what you want your life to look like.

How We Work

Move from intention to a plan

Once you are ready, CBT tools can help identify triggers, interrupt automatic patterns and prepare for difficult moments. The plan must be realistic enough to use.

In sessions, we may look at what happens before use, what you expect the substance to change and what follows afterward. Motivational Interviewing helps clarify your own reasons for doing something different. CBT can help identify thoughts and situations that make an automatic response more likely. Solution-focused work keeps attention on specific actions and on what has already helped.

My background includes leadership in psychiatric, addiction and state behavioral health services.

More about this

The right level of care matters. During consultation, we will discuss whether outpatient individual therapy fits your current needs.

How We Work

Begin with an honest account of where you are

You do not need to arrive with a final decision. You can begin by describing what you use, what concerns you and what change you have considered. If you feel torn, that is information we can work with rather than a reason to delay the conversation.

Our work stays connected to daily life. We can identify situations that increase risk, prepare for difficult moments and examine the thoughts that make change feel impossible. When you are ready to act, we will focus on a plan that is specific enough to use and flexible enough to adjust.

A free consultation is the first step. We will discuss what you need and whether outpatient individual therapy is an appropriate fit. Sessions are offered by secure telehealth to adults located in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts.
