A quieter town, and quieter struggles
New Canaan is a wooded town in Fairfield County, known for its stone walls and tree-lined roads and served by its own Metro-North branch line. Many families move here for the schools and stay for decades. Over those years, the shape of life can change more than people expect.
Children grow up and leave. A career that organized every day comes to an end. A parent needs more help. A marriage ends or changes. None of these is unusual, which is part of why people sometimes feel they should be handling them better than they are.
Therapy offers a place to take these changes seriously without rushing past what they mean.

Meeting from home
All sessions are by secure video. I do not have an office in New Canaan, so there is no drive to another town and no waiting room. Many people find it easier to talk openly from a familiar chair in their own home.
You need a private space, a reliable internet connection and a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone. You must be physically in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during each session.
If a device or connection feels unfamiliar, we can go over the basics before the first session.
What we might work on
When the children leave, some parents feel relief and loss at the same time and are unsure what to do with either. When retirement begins, some people feel adrift and wonder how to fill the days in a way that matters. After a loss, grief can arrive in waves and affect sleep, mood and concentration.
We will look at what the change means for your identity, your relationships and your daily life, and then choose practical steps. CBT can help test assumptions that narrow your options, Motivational Interviewing can help with mixed feelings, and solution-focused questions can surface strengths you already have.
I also have a particular understanding of how physical health and illness affect emotional well-being, which often matters in later life.
When a parent needs more of you
Midlife often brings a second kind of caregiving. A parent who was independent begins to need rides, help with appointments or decisions about where to live. Adult children may be managing this from a distance or balancing it with work and their own households.
The emotions can be complicated: love, duty, grief for the parent you knew, frustration and guilt about the frustration. In therapy, we can make room for all of it, clarify what you can realistically offer and prepare for conversations with siblings or other relatives about sharing the load.

I am in network with most major insurance plans and a participating provider in the MultiPlan network. Superbills are available for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I have been in private practice since 2014 and bring more than 30 years in behavioral health.

Common Questions
Questions People Ask
I am not very comfortable with technology. Can I still do telehealth?
Yes. You need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone and a reliable connection. We can go over the basics before your first session so it feels manageable.
Do you help with grief?
Yes. Loss is one of the transitions I work with. We move at your pace and focus on what you need now.
Is therapy only for people in crisis?
No. Many people come to therapy during ordinary but significant changes. If you are ever in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
