Online Therapy for Adults in New Haven

Demanding environments deserve a steady place to think.

New Haven is a city of universities and hospitals. If you work or study in a high-demand setting, secure video therapy offers a private, practical hour that fits around your schedule.

A city of students, clinicians and researchers

New Haven is home to Yale University and a large academic medical center, along with other colleges and a wide range of employers. Many residents are graduate students, researchers, nurses, physicians, faculty or staff whose work is intellectually demanding and often unpredictable in its hours.

In settings like these, anxiety and self-doubt can hide behind high performance. People compare themselves to talented peers, push through exhaustion and assume everyone else is coping better. Clinicians who care for others all day may find it hardest to ask for care themselves.

Therapy offers a place outside those systems to slow down and look honestly at what is happening.

Outside your institution

Many universities and hospitals offer counseling or assistance programs, and those can be a good resource. Some people prefer a therapist who is completely separate from their school or employer, for privacy or for longer-term individual work.

I am an independent private practice with no affiliation with any New Haven institution. All sessions are by secure video. I do not have an office in New Haven, and you must be physically in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during each session.

Sessions can fit around shifts and lab schedules because there is no travel involved.

Understanding health care from the inside

Before opening my private practice in 2014, I spent years leading mental health, psychiatric, addiction and clinical services in hospital and state systems. I hold an MPH in Health Care Management and Policy from Columbia University and an MSW from Florida State University.

That experience helps me understand the particular pressures of clinical and academic work: responsibility for outcomes you cannot fully control, long hours, hierarchy and the expectation to stay composed.

In our work, CBT can help you examine the thoughts that keep stress high. DBT skills can help when emotions run strong after a hard day. Solution-focused questions keep us anchored in what is already working.

Graduate school and early careers

Graduate programs and early clinical or research careers can be isolating. People move to New Haven from elsewhere, work long hours with a small group and may not have family close by. Setbacks, such as a failed experiment, a hard evaluation or a difficult shift, can feel personal and permanent.

In therapy, we can separate the facts of a situation from the story anxiety tells about it, and build ways to cope that do not depend on working harder. We can also look at the bigger question some people carry quietly: whether this path is still the right one.

If you are 18 or older and physically in Connecticut, New York or Massachusetts during sessions, you can work with me regardless of your program or employer.

Common Questions

Questions People Ask

Are you affiliated with Yale or a New Haven hospital?

No. I am an independent private practice. Some people prefer that separation for privacy.

Can you work around shift schedules?

Because sessions are by video, there is no travel time. Availability changes, so ask about times during your free consultation.

I am a clinician. Is it unusual for someone like me to seek therapy?

Not at all. People in caregiving and clinical roles often benefit from a space where they are not responsible for anyone else.
